Okay, so I’ve been wanting a really good watering can for a while. I’m tired of those cheap plastic ones that crack after a season or two. I decided I wanted something durable, something, well, American made. So I started hunting.
The Search Begins
First, I hit up the usual big box stores. You know, the ones with the giant garden sections. No luck. Everything was plastic, and most of it was clearly not made here. Disappointing, but I wasn’t giving up.
Next, I checked out some local nurseries and garden centers. I figured they might have something a little more high-end. I found a few metal watering cans, but they were all pretty flimsy. They felt like they’d dent if you looked at them wrong. Plus, again, most weren’t made in the USA. Strike two.
Digging Deeper Online
Feeling a bit frustrated, I turned to the internet. I started Googling “American made watering can” and “metal watering can USA”. I found a few promising leads – smaller companies specializing in handcrafted garden tools.
- I spent hours browsing websites, reading reviews. It was actually kinda fun, seeing all the different designs and styles.
- Some were super traditional, others were really modern and sleek. I was leaning towards something classic, something that looked like it would last forever.
- I narrowed it down to a couple of options. One was a galvanized steel can with a really nice, long spout. The other was a copper one, which was gorgeous, but also way more expensive.
Making a Choice
I debated for a while. The copper was tempting, but I just couldn’t justify the price. So, I went with the galvanized steel one. It looked sturdy, had great reviews, and the company seemed really passionate about quality. I placed the order and waited (im)patiently.
The Big Reveal!
It arrived a few days later, and I was so excited to unbox it. It was even better than I expected! Seriously, this thing was heavy-duty. The steel was thick, the welds were solid, and the spout was perfectly shaped for watering. It even had a little rose head on the end for a gentle shower.
I filled it up right away and gave my plants a good watering. It felt great in my hand, perfectly balanced. The long spout made it easy to reach hanging baskets and the back of my flower beds. And, best of all, I knew I was supporting an American company that cared about making quality products.
It’s been a few weeks now, and I’m still loving my new watering can. It’s definitely an upgrade from those cheap plastic ones. It’s also a little reminder that sometimes, it’s worth putting in the extra effort to find something that’s built to last.
