Alright, so, I’ve been messing around with these amaryllis plants for a while now, and let me tell you, they can be a bit of a pain when they get sick. I wanted to show some of the problems I’ve run into, and some pics of what these diseases actually look like. ‘Cause, you know, a picture’s worth a thousand words, right?
Red Blotch
First up, we got this nasty thing called red blotch. It’s a fungus, and it’s not pretty. I noticed these red spots showing up on the leaves of one of my plants. At first, I thought, “No big deal,” but then they started getting bigger, turning kinda brown, and the leaves started looking all messed up, curling and stuff.

What I did:
- I snipped off all the leaves that had those ugly red spots on ’em.
- Then I made sure to throw those leaves in the garbage, not the compost. You don’t want that fungus spreading around.
Leaf Scorch
Next, there’s this other problem called leaf scorch. It’s caused by bacteria, and it makes the leaves look like they’ve been burnt or something. You’ll see these brown patches, sometimes with a yellow ring around ’em. It’s not a good look.
What I did:
- I sprayed the plant with a fungicide.
- I tried to improve air circulation by moving it.
Mosaic Virus
Then there’s the mosaic virus. This one’s a real bummer. It makes the leaves look all streaky and yellow, and the flowers can get all weird and discolored.
What I did:
- Honestly, with this one, there’s not much you can do. I just had to get rid of the whole plant, unfortunately.
Bulb Rot
The last problem is bulb rot. I found some soft, mushy spots on the bulb. That’s definitely a sign that something’s wrong.
What I did:

- I carefully dug up the bulb and checked it out.
- I cut away any of the rotten parts with a clean knife, making sure to get all of the mushy stuff.
- Then I dusted the bulb with some of that powdered fungicide you can get at the store.
- After that, I let the bulb dry out for a few days before replanting it in some fresh soil.
So, yeah, those are some of the problems I’ve had with my amaryllis plants. It’s not always easy, but I learned to deal with them. Hope this helps anyone else who’s growing these things. They’re beautiful flowers, but they sure can be a lot of work sometimes!
