My little project: setting up the Flowerpot lamp
Alright, so I finally got my hands on a Verner Panton Flowerpot lamp. I’d seen them around, you know, in pictures and shops, and always liked that simple, sort of retro look. Decided it was time to actually get one for the corner in the living room.
It arrived in a pretty standard box. Opened it up. Everything was packed nice and snug, lots of cardboard and foam bits keeping things from bouncing around. Pulled out the main parts: the bigger top shade, the smaller bottom dome, the ceiling canopy piece, and the fabric cord already wired up. Felt solid enough, good weight to the metal parts.

First thing, I laid all the bits out on the floor, just to see what I was dealing with. Glanced at the instructions – looked straightforward enough, mostly pictures. Didn’t seem like rocket science.
Putting it together wasn’t too bad.
- The main job was attaching the smaller dome underneath the bigger one. There’s a little bracket thing inside the top dome where the bulb holder sits, and the smaller dome hangs off that. Just had to carefully slot it in place. Took a little jiggle to get it right.
- Then, selecting a bulb. The instructions recommended a certain type, so I made sure I had one ready. Screwed that in. Easy peasy.
Now, because mine was the pendant version, the next step was actually hanging it. This part always takes a bit more effort. Had to turn off the power at the breaker first – safety first, always! Then removed the old fixture I had up there. The Flowerpot came with a ceiling canopy and the necessary bits to wire it into the existing ceiling wiring. Matched the wires, secured them with the connectors, and then attached the canopy to the ceiling bracket to hide the messy bits. Took maybe 20 minutes, mostly because I was being careful up on the step ladder.
Once it was securely hanging, I adjusted the cord length so it hung just right over the side table. Flipped the power back on at the breaker. Held my breath a little bit – always do that after electrical stuff.
Flicked the wall switch. Success! It lit up. The light it gives off is nice and soft, mostly directed downwards but with a gentle glow coming from between the two domes. Looks really good in the corner, exactly the vibe I was going for. Simple, classic design, but definitely makes a statement.
So yeah, that was my little adventure setting up the Flowerpot lamp. Took maybe an hour total, including the ceiling installation part. Pretty happy with how it turned out. Looks great, feels solid. A good weekend task done.
