Philodendron Selloum Watering: Easy Guide & Common Mistakes!

Okay, so I’ve got this philodendron selloum, right? It’s huge, and I was totally killing it with kindness at first. Too much water, I think. The leaves were getting these yellow edges, and it just looked sad.

So, I started doing some digging, trying to figure out how to water this beast correctly. Here’s what I’ve learned and how I’ve changed my watering routine, and my plant is actually thriving now!

My Watering Journey

Phase 1: The Overwatering Disaster

  • I was watering it like, every other day. Just because.
  • The soil was always damp, like a swamp.
  • Result? Yellowing leaves, some droopy ones. Not good.

Phase 2: The Research Phase

  • Hit the internet. Found out these guys like to dry out a bit between waterings.
  • Learned the “finger test” – stick your finger in the soil up to your knuckle. If it’s dry, water. If it’s damp, wait.

Phase 3: The New Routine

  • Now, I wait. I check the soil every few days, but I don’t water until it’s dry to the touch.
  • When I do water, I soak it. I mean, I put it in the sink and let the water run through until it comes out the bottom.
  • Make sure use a pot with drainage holes.
  • Then, I let it drain completely. No sitting in water! That’s a recipe for root rot.

Phase 4: Success!

Seriously, the difference is amazing. The yellowing stopped, the leaves perked up, and it’s even putting out new growth. It’s like a whole new plant!

The biggest thing I learned? Less is more. Don’t drown your philodendron selloum! Let it dry out a little, and it’ll be much happier. I am happy to have found the correct way for me to water.
