Okay, so I’ve been wanting to add some pops of color to my garden, and I’ve always loved the look of pink flowers. I decided to go with annuals because I like to switch things up every year. Here’s how I went about it!
Getting Started: Picking My Plants
First, I headed to my local garden center. I wanted to see what was actually available and get a feel for what looked healthy. I made sure to check the little tags that tell you how much sun and water the plants need – super important!

I grabbed a few different types of pink flowering annuals that caught my eye. I had some:
- Petunias: Classic, lots of pink shades.
- Impatiens: These are great for shadier spots, I have some under a big tree.
- Begonias: Kinda waxy leaves, but the pink is so vibrant.
- Dianthus: These have a cute, fringed edge to the petals.
Prepping the Soil
Before I planted anything, I made sure the soil was ready. I dug around a bit to loosen it up. My soil is pretty clay-heavy, so I mixed in some compost to help with drainage. You don’t want the roots sitting in soggy soil!
Planting Time!
I followed the spacing recommendations on the plant tags. I dug a little hole, gently took the plant out of its container, and placed it in. Then I filled in around the roots with soil, making sure not to bury the stem too deep.
Watering and Care
After planting, I gave everything a good watering. I’ve been trying to water them deeply every few days, especially when it’s hot. I also snapped off any dead flowers – it’s called “deadheading” – to encourage more blooms.
It is working really well now.
Enjoying the Results
It’s been a few weeks, and my garden is looking so much brighter! The pink flowers are really popping, and I love seeing them every day. I’m already thinking about what colors I’ll try next year! Maybe some purple and yellow to go with the pink?
