Okay, so I saw this cool idea online for a “flowerpot light” and thought, “I gotta try that!” It seemed pretty straightforward, and I’m always up for a little DIY project to spice up my apartment.
First, I gathered my materials. The main thing, obviously, was a terracotta flowerpot. I already had a spare one lying around, but you can grab one pretty cheaply at most garden stores. Then I also need some tools, I found a drill, some string, and I bought a simple light socket with a cord – the kind you can plug into a wall. I also picked up a lightbulb, making sure it was the right size to fit inside the pot without touching the sides too much.
The DIY Process
- I started by cleaning the flowerpot. Mine was a bit dusty from being in storage, so I gave it a good scrub with some soapy water and let it dry completely.
- Next, the drilling. I used a drill Create a big hole, This was a bit nerve-wracking, because I didn’t want to crack the pot! I went slow and steady, and thankfully, it worked out fine.
- Once the hole was big enough, I took my light socket and threaded the cord through the hole from the inside of the pot.
I secured it in place. The string came in handy here – I tied it tightly around the socket to keep it from slipping back down. I also add some glue.
Finally, I screwed in the lightbulb, plugged it in, and… bam! Instant, stylish light fixture. I was pretty stoked with how it turned out. It gives off a warm, cozy glow, and it was way cheaper than buying a fancy lamp.
