Okay, so I’ve been wanting to spice up my living room, and I thought a modern flower pot stand would be perfect. I didn’t want to just buy one, though. I wanted to make it! Here’s how it went down:
Brainstorming and Sketching
First, I spent some time just looking at pictures online. I wanted something simple, clean lines, nothing too fussy. I grabbed a piece of paper and started sketching out some ideas. I’m no artist, but it helped me visualize what I wanted.

Gathering Supplies
Next up, the fun part – getting the materials! I went to my local home improvement store. I wanted a wooden look to it,so i decided the following:
- Some wood planks.I am not sure about the size, just chose some good looking ones.
- Wood glue, because, well, you need to glue wood together.
- Screws,I like it be strong.
- Sandpaper, to smooth everything out.
- Wood stain,I wanted it a little darker, so I went with a walnut color.
Cutting and Sanding
I used a saw to cut the wood,I chose some simple shapes,I cut them into to pieces to construct * I don’t want it to hurt anyone,so i used the sandpaper to sand down all the pieces. My goal was to get rid of any rough edges and make sure everything was nice and smooth.
Assembly Time!
This was where it all started to come together. I used wood glue to attach the pieces, following my very rough sketch.I put them together and use the screws to make them * are my best friends, used them to hold everything in place while the glue dried.
Staining and Finishing
Once the glue was completely dry (I waited a full day, just to be sure), it was time for the stain. I applied a coat of the walnut stain, let it sit for a bit, and then wiped off the excess. It instantly looked so much better! After the stain dried, I added a coat of sealant to protect the wood.
The Final Result!
And there you have it! My very own, handmade, modern flower pot stand. It’s not perfect, of course. There are a few imperfections here and there, but I’m super proud of it. I put my favorite plant on it, and it looks awesome in my living room. It’s exactly what I wanted, and I made it myself! Pretty cool, right?
