Okay, so I’ve been growing a Monstera deliciosa for a while now, and let me tell you, figuring out the right temperature was a bit of a journey! I started by doing some digging online, reading a bunch of stuff, you know how it is. And I saw everywhere it says something about 65 to 85 degrees.
My Monstera Temperature Experiment
I started by just kind of winging it. I mean, my house is usually around 70 degrees, so I figured, “Eh, close enough.” My Monstera was doing okay, but it wasn’t exactly thriving. The leaves were kind of small, and it wasn’t growing very fast.

So I decided to get a little more serious. I bought a cheap thermometer/hygrometer thingy and placed it near the plant. Turns out, my living room gets some pretty wild temperature swings! During the day, with the sun coming in, it could get up to almost 80 degrees. But at night, especially in the winter, it would drop down to like 62 or 63.
That’s when I realized I needed to be more consistent. I started closing the blinds a bit during the hottest part of the day to keep things cooler. And in the winter, I made sure the heating vent near the Monstera was open, so it would get a little extra warmth.
- Observation 1: Lower temperatures (low 60s) seemed to slow down growth.
- Observation 2: Direct sunlight caused to the leaves burn.
- Observation 3: Consistent temps in the 70-75 range made a HUGE difference.
I also started paying closer attention to the humidity, I got a humidifier to make sure it is moist. I used a hygrometer to monitor the temperature * a few weeks of keeping the temperature more consistently in that 65-85 degree range, I noticed a real change. My Monstera started putting out bigger leaves, and it was growing way faster. It was like it finally woke up!
So, based on my little experiment, keeping your Monstera deliciosa happy really does come down to keeping the temperature steady, somewhere between 65 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Don’t let it get too cold, and don’t let it bake in the direct sun. Just find that sweet spot, and your Monstera will reward you with some gorgeous, lush growth!
