Plant Bench Stand Guide: Choosing the Best Material and Size

Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to spruce up my balcony with some plants, but I didn’t have much space. Then I got this idea to build a plant bench stand. I thought, “Why not make it myself?”

First, I grabbed some wood from my garage – just some old planks I had lying around. I think they were from an old bookshelf or something. I dusted them off and measured them out. I wanted the stand to be about 4 feet long and maybe 1 foot wide. Simple enough, right?

Next, I cut the wood. This was a bit tricky because I’m not exactly a pro with a saw. But I managed. I cut two long pieces for the shelves and four shorter pieces for the legs. I also cut some smaller pieces to use as supports under the shelves.

After cutting, I sanded down all the pieces. I didn’t want any splinters, especially since I’d be handling the stand a lot. I used some rough sandpaper first and then switched to a finer one to get a smooth finish. It took a while, but it was worth it.

Putting It Together

Now came the fun part – assembling everything. I laid out the pieces on the ground to make sure I had everything right. Then I started with the legs. I attached them to the longer shelf pieces using screws. I made sure they were sturdy and could hold some weight.

  • Attached the legs to the bottom shelf.
  • Added the support pieces under the shelves for extra strength.
  • Attached the top shelf.

Once the frame was done, I added the shelves. I screwed them in place, making sure they were evenly spaced. I didn’t want the stand to be wobbly, so I double-checked everything to make sure it was level and secure.

After everything was assembled, I gave it a good wipe down. I wanted to get rid of any sawdust or dirt. Then I thought about painting it, but I decided to leave it as is. I liked the natural look of the wood.

Finally, I placed my plants on the stand. It looked great! I put some smaller pots on the bottom shelf and some bigger ones on top. It really made a difference to my balcony. Now I have a nice little green corner, and it feels so much more lively.

Honestly, building this plant bench stand was a lot of fun. It wasn’t too hard, and it didn’t take too long. Plus, it feels good to have made something with my own hands. And my plants seem to be pretty happy too!
