Today, I wanted to get my hands dirty and do some gardening. I’ve got this backyard that’s been calling my name, and I figured it was time to give it some love. So, I grabbed my trusty spade – seriously, everyone needs a good spade gardening tool – and got to work.
Prepping the Soil
First things first, I needed to prep the soil. This is where the spade really shines. I started by turning over the soil, loosening it up and getting rid of any big clumps. It’s a bit of a workout, but kind of satisfying, you know? Seeing the soil transform from packed and lifeless to loose and ready for planting is pretty cool.
Digging the Holes
Next up, I dug some holes for the new plants. I had some beautiful flowers I wanted to add to my garden, to brighten things up a bit. The spade made it easy to dig just the right size holes. I made sure they were deep enough for the roots to have plenty of room, but not so deep that the plants would be buried alive.
Planting the Flowers
With the holes ready, I gently placed each plant in its new home. I filled the holes back in with soil, carefully patting it down around the base of each plant to make sure they were secure. I like to think I have a green thumb, so I always talk to my plants a bit while I’m doing this. Don’t judge!
Removing Weeds
No garden is complete without some pesky weeds trying to take over. My spade is also my secret weapon against these unwanted guests. I carefully used the sharp edge of the spade to slice through the weeds at the root, making sure I got them all. It’s important to get the whole root, or they just grow back. Nobody wants that.
Adding Mulch
Once the planting and weeding were done, I spread a layer of mulch over the soil. This helps to keep the moisture in and the weeds out. Plus, it just looks nicer. I used the spade to scoop and spread the mulch evenly, making sure every inch of soil was covered.
Watering
Finally, I gave everything a good watering. I imagined those thirsty plants were happy. After all that digging and planting, I felt pretty accomplished. My garden was looking much better, and it was all thanks to a bit of hard work and my trusty spade.
So, if you’re thinking about doing some gardening, make sure you have a good spade. It’s a simple tool, but it makes a huge difference. Trust me, your garden will thank you for it. And you’ll feel pretty good too, knowing you did it all yourself.
