Yesterday I wanted to do some gardening work at home, but I found that my big shovel was too heavy for small plants. So I decided to get a miniature shovel. I searched for some information online, like “Small Garden Shovel Mini Kids Digging Shovel with Overall Length 28 inches Shovel for Digging.” and “DARTMOOR Mini Folding Shovel High Carbon Steel.”
I thought, why not make one myself? I found a piece of scrap metal and started to shape it. I cut it into a shovel-like shape and smoothed the edges. It wasn’t perfect, but it looked like a small shovel head. I also found an old broom handle in my storage. I cut the broom handle and made it about 20 inches.

- First, I cut the metal into shape.
- Then I smoothed it out.
- Next, I cut the broom handle.
After that, I attached the metal piece to the wooden handle. I used some strong glue and screws to make sure it was secure. I waited for the glue to dry, and then I tested it out. It worked pretty well! I used it to plant some small flowers and it was perfect for digging small holes. Although a bit of rust on the metal. Anyway, I think that is acceptable.
My DIY Mini Shovel
I felt a sense of accomplishment. I made something useful out of things I already had. It wasn’t as fancy as the ones you can buy, but it did the job. Plus, I saved some money and reused some old materials. Next time, maybe I’ll try to make other tools too. This whole thing was kinda fun. Though my wife saw me working on it and thought I was making something useless again and kept nagging, but this time I proved that I was right.
I just don’t think it’s worth buying a new one sometimes. Some people just can’t make something by themselves, it’s not easy you know. This way, I know I have made the right thing for myself.
