So, I’ve been wanting to jazz up my living room lately, and I had this crazy idea to make a flowerpot floor lamp. Yeah, you heard that right, a lamp made out of a flowerpot! I saw some stuff online about cool lamps, and it got me thinking, why not give it a shot?
First things first, I needed a flowerpot. I rummaged through my garage and found this old, kinda boring-looking ceramic pot. It was a bit dusty, but nothing a good scrub couldn’t fix. I washed it thoroughly and let it dry completely. That was easy peasy.
Next up, the lamp parts. I hit up a local hardware store and grabbed a lamp kit. The guy at the store was super helpful, walked me through all the different parts. He seemed a little surprised when I told him about my flowerpot idea, but hey, to each their own, right? I also picked up a light bulb and a lampshade while I was there.
Back home, I laid out all the parts and the flowerpot. The lamp kit came with instructions, thankfully, because I’m no electrician. I carefully followed the steps, connecting the wires and assembling the socket. It was a bit fiddly, but I managed to get it all together. Feels good to get your hands dirty, you know?
Now for the tricky part. I needed to make a hole in the bottom of the flowerpot for the cord to go through. I don’t have any fancy tools, so I just used a regular drill with a masonry bit. It took a while, and I had to stop a few times to let the drill cool down, but I eventually got through. Man, that was a workout!
With the hole drilled, I threaded the cord through and attached the base of the lamp kit to the flowerpot. I used some strong glue to secure it in place, just to be safe. I wanted this thing to be sturdy, not some wobbly mess.
Finally, I screwed in the light bulb, put the lampshade on, and plugged it in. And guess what? It worked! The light turned on, and it looked surprisingly good. I was pretty proud of myself, not gonna lie. The flowerpot gave it a unique, kind of rustic vibe, which I totally dig.

It’s not perfect, of course. There are a few rough edges here and there, but that’s part of the charm. It’s a handmade piece, and it has character. Plus, I made it myself, which makes it even more special. I also have a 2-year warranty, just in case. It was so simple, and the price was great! Who knew making your own lamp could be so rewarding? I might try making another one soon, maybe with a different kind of pot. The possibilities are endless!
