Okay, so, I needed a new watering can. The old plastic one cracked, and I was tired of it anyway. I wanted something that would last, something sturdy, you know? So I started looking into steel watering cans.
First, I looked around online to see what was out there. I checked out all kinds of different ones. It seemed like a lot of people thought that they were good for small gardens, like mine.

Then, I thought about what I needed. I mostly use it for my outdoor plants, but sometimes I bring it inside for the houseplants too. I don’t have a huge garden, just some raised beds and a few pots on the patio, plus a few house plants that are more than my cat, so a giant one wasn’t necessary. But I also didn’t want some tiny little thing that I’d have to refill every two seconds. It is annoying, right?
I went to a couple of local garden centers. They had some steel ones, but most were pretty small or looked kind of flimsy. I poked around at a hardware store too. They had a few, but nothing that really grabbed me.
- I checked out all the cans they had.
- I lifted them up to see how heavy they were.
- I looked at the spouts and handles to see if they looked comfortable to use.
Then I remembered a little gardening shop a few towns over, the kind of place that’s been around forever. I drove over there and found just what I was looking for. They had a whole shelf of steel watering cans in different sizes.
I found one that was just right, not too big, not too small. It felt solid, with a nice, long spout and a comfortable handle. It was a bit more expensive than the ones I saw at the other stores, but I figured it was worth it. I mean, it’s gonna last for a long time, right?
I bought it and took it home. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now, and I love it! It’s so much better than that old plastic one. It waters evenly, and it feels good in my hand. I feel like a real gardener now, haha! It is great!
It’s just a little thing, but it’s made a big difference in my gardening routine. If you’re looking for a new watering can, I definitely recommend checking out a steel one. You won’t regret it.
