Okay, so I wanted to share this little project I did – making my own colored watering cans. It all started when I was browsing online, looking for a new watering can. I saw all these ads, like “Free Delivery” and “Top Brands” on those big online stores, you know, the usual stuff. They had all sorts, from tiny 1-liter ones to those big 9-liter monsters, and they came in plastic, metal, you name it.
But then I thought, why not make it a bit more fun? I mean, watering cans are pretty basic, right? So, I decided to spice things up a bit and add some color to my gardening routine.

First, I went out and grabbed a couple of plain, basic watering cans. I think I got them from a local store, nothing fancy. One was plastic, and the other was metal, just to see how they’d turn out differently. Then came the fun part – choosing the colors! I went to a craft store and picked up some waterproof paints. I’m not much of an artist, but I figured, how hard could it be to paint a watering can?
- I started with the plastic one. I cleaned it up real good, making sure there was no dust or anything on it.
- Then, I just started painting. I went with a bright blue, ’cause why not? I slapped on a couple of coats, letting it dry in between. It was kinda messy, but hey, that’s part of the fun.
- For the metal one, I decided to go a bit different. I used a primer first, ’cause I read somewhere that it helps the paint stick better on metal. Then I painted it a sunny yellow. It took a bit longer to dry, but it was worth it.
The Result
After letting them dry for a day or two, they were ready to go. And let me tell you, they look pretty cool! The blue one is super vibrant, and the yellow one just screams “happy gardening.” It’s amazing how a little bit of color can make something as ordinary as watering plants a bit more enjoyable.
So, that’s my little adventure with colored watering cans. It’s not rocket science, but it was a fun little project, and now I’ve got these unique watering cans that make me smile every time I use them. Plus, it’s a nice little conversation starter when I have friends over. If you’re looking to add a bit of personality to your garden stuff, I’d say give it a go! It’s easy, cheap, and pretty darn satisfying.
