Signs of Overwatering Trees: Yellow Leaves and More! Discover Common Clues That Your Tree is Waterlogged.

Okay, so, I’ve been having this issue with my trees lately, and I thought I’d share my experience and what I’ve learned about overwatering.

It all started a few weeks ago when I noticed something off with a couple of my trees. I’m no expert, but I’ve been gardening for a while now, and I just knew something wasn’t right. I really love my trees so you can say I am into gardening.

Signs of Overwatering Trees: Yellow Leaves and More! Discover Common Clues That Your Tree is Waterlogged.

First thing I noticed, the leaves on one of my trees were starting to look a bit yellow. Not the normal autumn yellow, but a kind of sickly, pale color. I thought maybe it was a nutrient problem at first. I gave them some fertilizers and waited to see what happened.

Then, I saw that some of the new growth on another tree was wilting. Like, it wasn’t perky and fresh; it looked droopy and sad. This is when I started to suspect overwatering.

So, I did what anyone would do – I went to check the soil. I dug my fingers into the ground near the base of the trees. It was really, really wet. Not just moist, but soggy, like a sponge that’s been left in a bucket of water. It even rained a few days ago, so I thought I didn’t have to water them.

  • Yellowing Leaves: Some of the leaves were turning yellow, but it wasn’t the usual kind of yellow you see in the fall.
  • Wilting New Growth: The newer leaves and branches looked like they were wilting and not growing strong.
  • Soggy Soil: The soil around the trees was constantly wet, not just damp, even on days when it hadn’t rained.

I realized I might have been going overboard with the watering. I thought I was doing them a favor by watering more during a warm period, but I guess I was actually hurting them. I felt pretty bad, to be honest. It’s like when you think you’re helping but you’re actually making things worse. So that’s all of my experience about overwatering the trees, hope it helps!
