Today, I tackled a little project in my backyard. It wasn’t anything fancy, just needed to dig a hole for a new rose bush I picked up. But man, my old shovel was giving me a hard time. It was one of those regular, rounded shovels, and the ground here is pretty tough and full of roots.
So, I remembered seeing this “spearhead” shovel at the hardware store a while back. It’s got a pointed blade instead of a rounded one, supposed to be better for tough soil. I figured it was worth a shot, so I ran back to the store and grabbed one.

Trying it Out
- First thing I noticed was the weight. It’s a bit heavier than my old shovel, but it feels really solid and well-made.
- The handle is pretty standard, nothing special there. But that pointed blade, that’s where the magic happens.
- I went back to my half-dug hole and started digging. Man, what a difference! That pointed tip just sliced through the soil like butter.
- Roots? No problem. This thing just chopped right through them. I was making way more progress than before.
Seriously, I finished digging that hole in half the time it was taking me with the old shovel. My back was thanking me, too. Less bending, less straining. It’s just way easier to get that pointed blade into the ground.
I’m no gardening expert, but this spearhead shovel? It’s a game-changer for sure. If you’ve got tough soil or lots of roots to deal with, you gotta try one of these. You won’t regret it. Now my rose is happily planted, and I am not exhausted at all.
