Okay, so today I wanted to get my hands dirty and do a little gardening. I had this old border spade shovel that I’d bought a while back, and it was time to put it to good use. I started by heading out to my backyard. It’s not huge, but it’s got a nice little patch where I like to plant things.
First, I surveyed the area where I wanted to work. I needed to dig up some old roots and prepare the soil for some new plants. The ground was pretty hard and packed, so I knew it wouldn’t be a walk in the park. I grabbed the border spade shovel and got to work. I started by plunging the shovel into the ground, using my foot to push it down as far as it would go. It wasn’t easy, but I kept at it, wiggling the shovel back and forth to loosen the soil.

After a few minutes of digging, I could see some progress. I kept digging, removing the soil and breaking up the clumps. I found some old roots and used the sharp edge of the shovel to chop them up. It was a bit of a workout, but I could feel the soil becoming softer and more workable.
- First attack: I started by driving the shovel straight into the ground.
- Next up: I gave it a good wiggle to loosen things up.
- Then: I scooped out the dirt and got rid of the big chunks.
- Finally: I used the sharp edge to chop up any roots I found.
I spent a good hour working on that patch of soil. By the end, I was pretty tired, but it was satisfying to see the transformation. The ground was now soft and ready for planting. I took a break and then planted some flower seeds I had picked up. I watered them gently, hoping they would sprout soon.
A Day’s Work
Using the border spade shovel was a bit tough, but it definitely did the job. It made digging and preparing the soil much easier than I thought it would be. It was a good reminder that having the right tool can make a big difference. Plus, getting some exercise and fresh air was a nice bonus. All in all, it was a productive day in the garden, and I’m looking forward to seeing those flowers bloom.
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
