Okay, here is my sharing about how I made a flowerpot portable lamp:

So I saw this Flowerpot VP9 Portable Table Lamp online the other day. It was designed by this guy, Verner Panton, back in 1968. It looked super cool, and I really wanted one. But man, it was expensive! I’m not made of money, you know? But I didn’t want to miss out. That’s when I thought, “Hey, why don’t I try to make one myself?”

I started by gathering some materials. It was a little bit smaller than the table lamp version, so I got a small flowerpot from a local store. I found a lampshade that looked similar to the one in the pictures. It’s like a dome shape, you know, pretty simple. I also picked up a basic lamp kit from the hardware store. It came with a socket, a cord, and a switch. Nothing fancy, just the basics.

First things first, I cleaned the flowerpot thoroughly. I wanted a clean base to work with. Then, I marked a spot on the bottom of the flowerpot where the cord would go through. I took my drill and carefully made a hole. It was a bit nerve-wracking because I didn’t want to crack the pot, but I did it slowly, and it turned out fine.

Next, I took the socket from the lamp kit. I threaded the cord through the hole I just drilled and connected it to the socket. I followed the instructions that came with the kit. It was pretty straightforward. I just had to match the wires and screw them in place. Once that was done, I secured the socket inside the flowerpot using some strong glue.

After that, I let the glue dry for a few hours. While waiting, I took the lampshade and attached it to the top of the flowerpot. It fit perfectly. I also used a bit of glue to make sure it stayed in place. It was all coming together nicely.

  • Materials I used:
    • A small flowerpot
    • A dome-shaped lampshade
    • A basic lamp kit (socket, cord, switch)
    • Strong glue
    • Drill

Finally, I screwed in a light bulb, plugged it in, and flipped the switch. And guess what? It worked! My DIY flowerpot lamp lit up just like the real thing! I was so proud of myself. It looked really stylish on my desk. It was a bit smaller than the VP9, but hey, it was my own creation!

It was such a fun project, and it saved me a ton of money. Plus, I got to learn some new skills along the way. It wasn’t too hard, you know. If I can do it, you probably can too! If you’re looking for a fun weekend project, this is a great one to try. And you get a cool lamp out of it! What’s not to love?
