Overwatering Rubber Plant What to Do: My Rubber Plant is Dying Help Me!

Okay, so, I’ve got this rubber plant, right? It’s supposed to be, like, the easiest plant ever. But somehow, I managed to mess it up. I think I overwatered it. Let me tell you the whole story.

How I Messed Up My Rubber Plant

It all started when I brought this cute little rubber plant home from the store. I put it in a nice pot, gave it some water, and placed it where it could get some sunlight. I thought I was doing everything right.

Overwatering Rubber Plant What to Do: My Rubber Plant is Dying Help Me!

I watered it whenever the soil looked dry. Turns out, that was way too often. See, I didn’t really know how to check if it actually needed water. I was just going by how the soil looked on top. Big mistake.

After a while, I started noticing some yellow leaves. They looked kinda droopy, too. I thought maybe it needed more water, so, yeah, I watered it even more. I know, I know, not the brightest move.

  • The leaves started getting these brown spots.
  • Some of the leaves even started to fall off!
  • The soil always felt wet, and it smelled kinda funky.

That’s when I realized I was probably overwatering it. I did some googling and found out that rubber plants don’t like to sit in water. Oops.

So, I stopped watering it immediately. I carefully took it out of the pot and saw that the roots were all mushy and brown. Root rot, just like I read online. Not good.

I tried to save it. I removed all the rotten roots, changed the soil to some fresh, well-draining stuff, and put it back in the pot. I even started using a moisture meter to check when to water it.

It’s been a few weeks now, and my rubber plant is slowly recovering. It’s got some new leaves, and they look healthy! I’m still kicking myself for almost killing it, but hey, live and learn, right? Now, I’m extra careful with the watering, and I always make sure the soil is dry enough before I even think about giving it a drink.
