Okay, so I wanted to make one of those plant stand trees. You know, the ones that look like a little tree but hold your plants? They’re super cute and a great way to show off your green babies. I didn’t really have a plan, but I figured, how hard could it be?

First, I gathered some wood. I just used some scraps I had lying around from other projects. I thought wood would give it a nice, warm look, you know? I grabbed a few different sizes, not really knowing what I was doing, just that I needed a base and some branches.

Next, I started cutting the wood. This was a bit of a mess, to be honest. I tried to make the base a circle, but it ended up looking more like a lopsided potato. But hey, it was sturdy, so I went with it. Then I cut some longer pieces for the branches. I aimed for different lengths to make it look more like a real tree.

  • Cut wood for the base (a very wonky circle).
  • Cut several pieces of wood for branches at various lengths.
  • Sand down the rough edges of the base and branches (because splinters are no fun).

I sanded everything down to get rid of any rough edges. Don’t want any splinters! That was kind of therapeutic, actually. Just me and my sandpaper, smoothing things out.

Then came the tricky part: attaching the branches to the base. I used wood glue and some screws. It was a bit wobbly at first, and I definitely messed up a few times, having to redo some branches. I learned that you gotta be patient with this stuff.

And tried to add some dimension and color, I wanted to create a dedicated space for my lovely houseplants.

After a lot of trial and error, I finally got all the branches on. It wasn’t perfect, a little crooked in places, but it was standing! I was pretty proud of myself, not gonna lie. I decided to leave it as natural wood, but I guess you could paint it if you wanted.

Finally, I put my plants on it. I have a bunch of small succulents and a few air plants, and they fit perfectly on the little branches. It ended up looking pretty darn good, if I do say so myself. It added a nice touch to my living room and really showed off my plants.

The Result

So, yeah, that’s how I made my plant stand tree. It was a fun little project, and I learned a lot along the way. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and I think it turned out pretty well. Plus, my plants seem to like it, and that’s what really matters, right?
