Okay, so, I decided it was time to give my hoya a new home. It had been in the same pot for a while, and I figured it could use some fresh soil and a bit more room to grow. It was quite easy to do so and let me show you how I did it.
Getting Started
First things first, I gathered all my stuff. I got a new pot that was just a bit bigger than the old one, some fresh potting mix – the kind that drains well because hoyas don’t like to sit in water, you know? I also grabbed some small stones to put at the bottom of the pot for extra drainage. A little trick I learned is that this really helps prevent the roots from getting all soggy.

Prepping the New Pot
I started by putting a layer of those small stones at the bottom of the new pot. Then, I added some of that fresh potting mix on top of the stones. I didn’t fill it all the way up, just enough so that when I put the plant in, the top of the root ball would be about an inch below the rim of the pot. I had this nice plan in mind, trust me.
Moving the Plant
Now for the tricky part, getting the hoya out of its old pot. I gently squeezed the sides of the old pot to loosen the soil and then carefully turned the pot on its side. The plant slid right out, roots and all. It was a bit root-bound, which I guess is pretty normal for hoyas, but nothing too crazy.
Settling In
Next, I placed the hoya in the new pot, making sure it was centered. I added more potting mix around the root ball, gently firming it down with my fingers. I filled the pot up to that inch below the rim, just like I planned. I did not do anything else but this.
Aftercare
After I got the plant all settled in, I gave it a good watering. I made sure the water drained out of the bottom, so I knew it wasn’t just sitting in a puddle. And that was it! I put the repotted hoya back in its usual spot, where it gets plenty of bright, indirect light.
Some Final Thoughts
- Easy peasy: The whole process was actually pretty easy, even for someone like me who’s not exactly a green thumb.
- Happy plant: My hoya seems pretty happy in its new home. It’s been a few weeks, and it’s already putting out some new growth. This makes me happy too!
- Don’t be scared: If you’re thinking about repotting your hoya, don’t be scared. Just go for it! It’s not as hard as you might think, seriously.
So, yeah, that’s my hoya repotting adventure. Hope this helps anyone out there who’s thinking about doing the same thing. It’s pretty rewarding to see your plant thriving after a little TLC. This is a good try. I am happy with this result.
