So, guys, I’ve been messing around with this lamp project lately, and I wanted to share the whole process with y’all. It’s called the Flowerpot Lamp, inspired by Verner Panton’s design. Let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride!
First off, I started by gathering all the materials. Now, this lamp has a pretty unique design – it’s got these two half-circle spheres that face each other. It’s like a little spaceship or something! I found some metal bowls that were just the right size and shape. The diameter of the top bowl is twice as big as the bottom one, which is key to the whole design. They had to do lots of size comparison work to find the right bowls.
Next, I got to work on shaping these bowls. I marked the bottom, also drilled a hole to allow the cable to pass through. Then, I drilled holes for the light bulb socket. Now, here’s a tip – make sure you use a good drill bit for metal, or you’ll be there all day. Trust me, I learned that the hard way. Also, I also spray-painted the bowls on the inside and outside. I went with a bright color because, why not? Life’s too short for boring lamps.
Once the paint was dry, I started putting it all together. I fixed the light bulb socket in the smaller, bottom bowl. This is where the bulb hides, by the way. Then I connected the wiring. I have to admit I spent lots of time figuring out the wiring, but I figured it out eventually. I’m no electrician, but I managed to get it done without electrocuting myself, which is always a plus.
The final step was attaching the top bowl. I used some strong adhesive to secure it to the bottom one. I found this cool USB charging cable that’s perfect for this lamp. It makes it portable, so you can move it around wherever you need a little extra light. This portable function took me a lot of time to implement. I needed to find the right portable battery, but also to control the size of the battery, after all, this is a table lamp, can not be too big.
