Dirty Gardening Gloves? How to Clean Gardening Gloves Easily at Home

Okay, so the other day I was out in my garden, doing some serious weeding and planting. You know, the usual spring stuff. By the time I was done, my gloves were looking pretty nasty. Mud all over, some green stains, the whole nine yards. I thought, “Man, I gotta clean these things up.”

First, I took the gloves outside to my backyard. I picked up the garden hose, and gave them a good rinse. I sprayed them down, trying to get all that loose dirt off. I even banged them together a bit to shake off the bigger clumps of mud.

Water bucket

Next, I filled up a bucket with some water, and dumped the gloves in. I swished them around for a while, trying to loosen up any stubborn dirt that was still clinging on. They still looked pretty bad at this point.

I put the gloves on and added some soap, just regular hand soap. I rubbed my gloved hands together like I was washing my hands, making sure to scrub the fingertips and palms. I used a scrub brush to get into the little crevices and really get the grime out. Then I took the gloves off carefully.

Rinse again

  • Took the gloves back to the hose.
  • Rinsed them thoroughly again.
  • Made sure all the soap was gone.

Finally, I hung them up on the clothesline to dry in the sun. I think the sunshine helps to kill any germs, too. They looked so much better after all that, almost like new! It’s amazing what a little water and soap can do. I gotta remember to do this more often, seriously.

Now my gloves are all clean and ready for my next gardening adventure. It’s a good feeling to have clean gear, you know? Makes me feel like a real pro, even if I’m just puttering around in my backyard.
