Do pothos like direct sunlight? Learn how to care for your pothos.

So, I’ve been growing this pothos plant for a while now, and I’ve always wondered about how much sunlight it really needs. I mean, you read all sorts of things online, right?

My Pothos Experiment

I started with my pothos in a spot that got a decent amount of indirect light. It was near a window, but not directly in the sun’s path. It seemed happy enough there, growing at a steady pace.

Then I got curious. What if I moved it a bit closer to the window, where it would get some direct sunlight, especially in the morning? I thought, maybe it would grow even faster! So, I moved it.

Direct Sunlight – Not So Great

  • First few days: Everything seemed fine.
  • After a week: I started noticing some changes. The leaves, which were once a vibrant green, started to look a bit pale.
  • Worse yet: Some of the leaves started developing these dry, brown patches. It was like they were getting sunburned!

Clearly, my pothos was NOT enjoying the direct sunlight. It was too harsh for it. I quickly moved it back to its original spot with the indirect light.

Back to Indirect Light

After moving it back, it took a while for my pothos to recover. I trimmed off the damaged leaves, and slowly but surely, it started to perk up again. New leaves started growing, and they were a healthy, vibrant green like before.

What I Learned

So, here’s the deal: pothos plants really do prefer bright, indirect light. They can handle a little bit of direct sun, maybe some gentle morning light, but too much will scorch their leaves. It’s all about finding that sweet spot where they get enough light to thrive, but not so much that they get burned. At least, that’s what I learned from my little experiment! It’s a tough world out there, even for plants!
