Long Handle Shovels: A Complete Guide For Gardeners And Homeowners!

Recently, I have a small garden, and I need to do some work. At first, I didn’t know what tools I should buy, so I asked my friend, and he told me you need a shovel. So, I started to look for what kind of shovel I should buy.

First, I asked myself, “What will I mainly use the shovel for?” and “How often will I use it?” For me, I just use it for gardening, and the frequency is not high, maybe once a month. So, I started to search online. I found out that there are many types of shovels, like round point shovels and spades. I got confused, which one should I buy?

Long Handle Shovels: A Complete Guide For Gardeners And Homeowners!

I read some articles and watched some videos. It said that long-handled shovels are better for tree planting and digging holes. They can reach deep into the hole, and it’s easier on your back because of the better leverage. Also, they are good for digging compost. On the other hand, spades with short handles are good for digging holes for plants, edging, and moving small amounts of dirt. But they say spades are more expensive, although a good one will last for a long time.

Some people also mentioned that long-handled tools, like weeders and bulb planters, are good because you don’t have to bend down, which is more comfortable, especially if kneeling is a problem. Finally, I learned that when choosing a shovel, you want a long handle that reaches about your chest or shoulders. It’s like a lever, and the longer the handle, the easier it is to use.

So, after considering all this, I decided to go for a long-handled shovel. It seems more versatile for my needs. I went to a local store and found one that was just the right height for me. It felt comfortable to hold and use. I tried it out in my garden, digging a few holes for some new plants, and it worked great. It was easy to use, and my back didn’t hurt after using it.

  • My decision: Long-handled shovel.
  • Reason: Versatile, good for digging deep holes, and easier on the back.
  • Result: Worked well for planting and was comfortable to use.

In the end, I’m happy with my choice. Gardening became much easier and more enjoyable with the right tool. This experience taught me the importance of choosing the right tools for the job. It’s not just about having a tool, but having the right one that suits your needs and makes the work easier and more comfortable.
