How to Repot Orchids in Bloom? Follow These Easy Tips and Tricks!

Okay, so, I’ve got this orchid, right? It’s blooming, looking all pretty and stuff. But I was like, “Hmm, maybe it’s time to give this baby a new home.” I know, I know, everyone says don’t repot orchids when they’re blooming. They say the flowers might fall off. But hey, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

First things first, I gave the roots a good soak. I just let the whole plant sit in some water for about an hour. This makes the roots all soft and bendy, so it’s way easier to get the orchid out of its old pot without breaking anything.

Then, I gently, and I mean gently, took the orchid out of the pot. I just pull it off from the old pot, then you can see all those roots. Man, they were all tangled up and stuck together. Time for a little cleanup!

I used some warm water to rinse off all that old potting mix. The old potting mix looked like moss. It was, like, really packed in there. The water makes it easy to remove all that stuff. And there were some dead, papery bits around the roots, so I cleaned those off too. Just use your hands, be gentle.

Now, for the new pot. I picked one that’s just a bit bigger than the old one. Orchids like to be a little snug, you know? And I got some of that special orchid potting mix. It’s all barky and chunky, not like regular dirt. Orchids need that because their roots like to breathe. I filled the bottom of the new pot with some of this mix.

Before I put the orchid in, I gave the roots another little treat. I mixed up some weak plant food with water, just a tiny bit, and let the roots soak in that for about 15 minutes. I heard this helps them grow new roots, and who doesn’t want that, right?

Finally, I put the orchid in its new home. I spread the roots out a bit and then filled in around them with more of that barky mix. I made sure not to bury the leaves, just the roots. Then I gave it a good watering to settle everything in.

So there you have it. My orchid’s got a new pot, and it’s still blooming! Sure, a few flowers might drop, but that’s okay. It’s all part of the process. Now we just wait and see how it does in its new digs. I’m feeling pretty good about it, though. Fingers crossed!
