Well, guys, I’ve been wanting to spruce up my porch for a while now, and I finally got around to doing something about it. The plan? Hanging baskets full of flowers! I figured it would be a simple way to add some color and life to the front of the house.
First things first, I had to find some baskets. I hit up a few different stores, but honestly, I didn’t find anything that really wowed me. Plus, the prices were kind of all over the place. You’d think a hanging basket is a hanging basket, right? But nope, there were tons of styles and sizes. I was looking for something pretty simple and not too expensive, so I ended up ordering a couple of those self-watering ones online. They were about 22 bucks each, which seemed reasonable enough. And they had decent reviews. I went with the 10-inch size, thinking that would be a good starting point.

While I was waiting for the baskets to arrive, I started looking around for flowers. I browsed a bit online, but it was hard to tell what was actually available in my area. So, I made a trip to the local garden center. They had a whole section dedicated to hanging basket flowers, which was awesome. There were so many choices! It was a little overwhelming, to be honest. I wandered around for a good hour, just taking it all in.
I ended up grabbing a mix of different flowers. I got some trailing elephant bush succulents because I saw them online for like 35 dollars but managed to find a deal here, a few colorful petunias, and some of those little white flowers, I can’t remember what they’re called. Oh, and I also got some potting soil, of course. Can’t forget that!
Once the baskets arrived, I got to work. It was pretty straightforward, really. I filled the baskets with soil, then arranged the flowers how I wanted them. I tried to put the taller ones in the middle and the trailing ones around the edges. It was actually kind of fun, like playing in the dirt but with a purpose.
After I got everything planted, I gave them a good watering. Then came the moment of truth: hanging them up! I already had a couple of hooks on my porch, so it was just a matter of getting the baskets onto them. It took a little bit of maneuvering, but I managed to get them both up without dropping them. Phew!
And that’s pretty much it! They’ve been hanging for a few days now, and they seem to be doing okay. I’ve been watering them regularly, and they’re starting to fill out nicely. I’m really happy with how they turned out. It’s amazing how much of a difference a few flowers can make. My porch looks so much more inviting now.
