Indoor Plants with Flowers Low Light: Which Ones Thrive in Shade?

Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to spruce up my place with some plants, but my apartment? It’s like a cave. Not much natural light gets in. I did some digging online, trying to figure out what plants could actually survive in my dimly lit home. I mean, I really wanted some flowers to brighten things up, but I wasn’t sure if that was even possible. Honestly, I wasn’t sure how the search of best plants for my dark room will end up with.

First, I just started searching around for general tips on like, low-light plants, and found some basic advice. Most of it was just common sense stuff, like, “Even low-light plants need some light,” which, duh. But it did get me thinking about the few spots in my apartment that get a little bit of indirect sunlight.

Then, I went down a rabbit hole of different plant lists. There were so many! “Top 30 Low-Light Plants,” “25 Resilient Plants for Shady Corners” – you name it. I started jotting down names of plants that seemed interesting, especially ones that mentioned flowers.

One name kept popping up: African Violets. Apparently, these little guys are pretty easygoing and bloom multiple times a year. Plus, they come in tons of colors and varieties. I found a local nursery, and I decided to give them a try.

I bought a couple of small African Violets, one with purple flowers and another with pink. I placed them on my windowsill, which is the brightest spot in my apartment, even though it doesn’t get direct sun. I also grabbed a little watering can and some special African Violet fertilizer I found online. I used to put them inside of a cupboard, but then I realized that they really cannot make it.

Honestly, I was a bit nervous. I don’t exactly have a green thumb. But I followed the instructions I found online: water when the soil feels dry to the touch, avoid getting water on the leaves, and feed them every few weeks. I also made sure to rotate them every now and then so they’d grow evenly.

And guess what? They’re actually doing great! They’ve been blooming like crazy, adding a much-needed splash of color to my otherwise dark apartment. It’s been a few months now, and they’re still thriving. I even bought a couple more. I put them on the top of my cupboard, and it turns out better than before.

So, yeah, even if you think your place is too dark for plants, don’t give up hope! There are definitely options out there, and it’s super rewarding to see them thrive. Just do a little research, pick a plant that sounds good, and give it a try. You might be surprised!
