Flowerpot Table Lamp: How to Choose the Perfect One?

Alright, folks, gather ’round! Today, I’m gonna tell you about my little project: making a flowerpot table lamp. It wasn’t too hard, and it turned out pretty darn good if I do say so myself.

So, first off, I needed to get my stuff together. You know, the basics. I got this old flowerpot I wasn’t using anymore, and I thought, “Hey, this could be a cool lamp base.” Then, I needed a lampshade. I remembered someone saying the shade should be about two-thirds the height of the base, give or take. Sounded about right, so I went with that. I found one in my attic, it is old-fashioned, but just right for me.

Flowerpot Table Lamp: How to Choose the Perfect One?

Gathering Supplies

  • Flowerpot: I used an old one I had lying around.
  • Lampshade: Found one that was roughly two-thirds the height of the flowerpot.
  • Lamp Kit: This includes the cord, socket, and harp. Picked one up from the hardware store.
  • Tools: Screwdriver, maybe some pliers. Nothing fancy.

Next, I started messing with the flowerpot. I took it from my garden yesterday. I had to drill a hole in the bottom for the cord to go through. I don’t have a drill, so I asked my neighbor, old Tom, for help. He is very kind, and he helped me a lot! After that, I gave it a good cleaning and a fresh coat of paint, just to spruce it up a bit.

Then came the fun part – putting it all together. I threaded the cord through the hole in the pot and started assembling the lamp kit. The instructions were pretty straightforward, even for a non-expert like me. I attached the socket, connected the wires, and secured the harp. It was like putting together a puzzle, but way more satisfying.

Assembling the Lamp

  • Drilled a hole: Made space for the cord in the flowerpot.
  • Cleaned and painted: Gave the pot a fresh new look.
  • Assembled the kit: Followed the instructions to put the lamp parts together.
  • Attached the shade: Fixed the lampshade onto the harp.

Once everything was in place, I put the lampshade on top. I made sure it wasn’t too big or too small for the table I had in mind. It’s all about balance, you know? You don’t want it looking wonky. I used a warm-toned bulb, it’s better for my eyes. The last thing was to plug it in and flip the switch. And there it was! My very own flowerpot table lamp. It gave off this cozy, warm light. Perfect for reading or just chilling in the living room.

Honestly, it was a blast making this lamp. And it’s kinda cool to have something in my house that I made with my own two hands. If you’re looking for a fun weekend project, give this a try. It’s easier than you think, and you’ll end up with a unique piece for your home. Plus, it’s a great way to recycle old stuff. Win-win, right?

So that’s my story, folks. Hope you enjoyed it and maybe even got inspired to do some DIY-ing yourself. Remember, if I can do it, so can you. Just take it step by step, and don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty. Happy crafting!
