So, I’ve always loved getting my hands dirty in the garden, but lately, I’ve been scratching my head over this darn “gardening tool” clue in The New York Times crossword puzzle. It’s been driving me nuts! I mean, I use a bunch of tools out there, so which one could it be? I started thinking about all the tools I use and tried to fit them into the puzzle.

First, I grabbed my trusty trowel. It’s perfect for digging out those stubborn weeds by their roots. I tried to plug “trowel” into the puzzle, but it didn’t quite fit. Hmm, onto the next tool.

Next up, I used my garden fork. I use this bad boy to loosen up the soil and mix in compost. It’s a real workhorse. I tried “fork” in the crossword, but no luck there either. It’s a short word, but it just didn’t match the clue’s letter count.

Then, I picked up my hoe. This one’s great for chopping weeds and moving soil around. It’s a classic. “Hoe” is even shorter than “fork,” and it still didn’t fit. I started to get a little frustrated, to be honest.

I even pondered over some other tools like my shovel and rake, but they were way too long to fit the clue. I spent days trying different words, researching online, and looking at various crossword resources. I found out that this particular clue had shown up on April 27th and May 14th, so it wasn’t a one-time thing. This made me even more determined to crack it.

Finally, after all that digging around, I hit the jackpot! I found the answer on a crossword solutions site. Turns out, the answer was a word I hadn’t even considered. I won’t spoil it for you in case you’re still working on it, but let’s just say it was a real “aha!” moment.

Here’s a little list of what I tried:

  • Trowel: Too long.
  • Fork: Too short.
  • Hoe: Too short.
  • Shovel: Way too long.
  • Rake: Nope.

This whole crossword puzzle adventure was quite the journey. It taught me a thing or two about gardening tools and, more importantly, about patience and persistence. It’s funny how a simple crossword clue can lead you down such a rabbit hole, huh? Keep on puzzling, friends!
