Fertilizing hydrangeas with coffee grounds: A simple guide for bigger blooms.

Well, I heard some folks talk about fertilizing hydrangeas with coffee grounds. I think it’s a good idea, I always save my coffee grounds, you know. Waste not, want not, my old man used to say.

My neighbor, she told me the other day, “You use them coffee grounds on your flowers?” I said, “Sure, why not?” She said it makes the soil good. I said, “Well, I reckon it can’t hurt.”

Coffee Grounds Make Flowers Blue

My hydrangeas, they used to be pink. Pretty things, but I like blue better. Someone told me, you put coffee grounds around them, they turn blue.

So I tried it. Just sprinkled them around the bottom, like you’d sprinkle sugar on your oatmeal. Didn’t put too much, though. Don’t want to drown the poor things.

And you know what? It worked! Took a while, mind you. Not like those instant things you see on the TV. But slow and steady, like my old tortoise. Now my hydrangeas are blue as a robin’s egg. Pretty as a picture, they are.

Don’t Put Coffee Grounds on These Plants

But listen, don’t you go putting coffee grounds on everything. Some plants, they don’t like it.

  • My friend, she put them on her asparagus, and it almost died!
  • Another lady told me her white clover got all sickly.
  • And I heard that Chinese mustard, whatever that is, hates coffee grounds.

So, you gotta be careful. Coffee grounds for hydrangeas, that’s fine. But other plants, you better ask someone who knows more than me.

How Much Coffee Grounds to Use

Now, I don’t measure nothin’. I just eyeball it. But I’d say maybe a cup or two for each plant. Just a thin layer, like I said. Don’t go piling it on like you’re building a mountain.

And don’t let it touch the stems. That can make them moldy. I learned that the hard way. Lost a whole rose bush once ’cause I got too excited with the fertilizer. Oh, that was a sad day.

Mixing Coffee Grounds into the Soil

You gotta mix it in a little, too. Just take a fork and scratch it around a bit. Don’t go digging deep, just loosen up the top layer of soil.

Like you’re fluffing up a pillow. That’s what my grandma used to say. “Fluff up the earth like you’re fluffing up a pillow, and your plants will thank you for it.”

That’s what you want if you use coffee grounds as fertilizer.

Coffee Grounds Are Good for the Soil

They say coffee grounds are good for the soil. Make it richer, I guess. I don’t know all the fancy words, but I know my plants seem to like it. They grow big and strong, and the flowers are brighter.

And it’s free! That’s the best part. I don’t have to spend my money on those expensive fertilizers they sell at the store. Just use what I already got. Like I said, waste not, want not.

Other Things You Can Use

Now, I ain’t no expert. But I heard other things are good for hydrangeas, too.

  • Some folks use eggshells. Crush them up real fine and sprinkle them around.
  • And banana peels, they’re supposed to be good, too. Chop them up and bury them near the roots.
  • My neighbor, she swears by manure. Says it makes her hydrangeas bloom like crazy. But I can’t stand the smell.

So there you have it. My two cents on fertilizing hydrangeas with coffee grounds. It works for me, and it might work for you. Just remember to be careful and don’t overdo it.

Now i think use coffee grounds is a good way to make hydrangeas more beautiful. I hope it will work for you. And I also hope you can use it on other plants, like roses. That is a good flower.

I remeber one time, I used too many coffee grounds, and my hydrangeas got sick. You must be careful, do not use too much.

How to make hydrangeas more beautiful

If you want beautiful hydrangeas, you must do something. Water is important, I think. And you need to make sure your hydrangeas can get sunshine.

And if the soil is not good, your hydrangeas will not be beautiful. So you need to do something to make your soil good. My neighbor told me to use some fertilizer. But I think coffee grounds is good enough.

If you want your hydrangeas bloom, you need to give them some nutrients. Coffee grounds have some, but not much, I think. So you may need to buy some fertilizer. I saw some at the store, 15-10-10, 10-5-5, they are good for hydrangeas, the man in the store told me.

But if you just want blue hydrangeas, coffee grounds is ok. I love blue, it is a good color. So I use coffee grounds on my hydrangeas, and they are all blue now. I like it.
