So I was grinding those Drake Shoveler mounts again yesterday, right? Everyone keeps asking which method is fastest. Figured I’d actually try ’em all myself and see what sucked less.
First Try: The Classic Runaround
Started with what most guides say. Grabbed my fastest mount, chugged that speed potion, and just ran laps around that big lake in the east. Point was killing every Shoveler pack super quick. Did this for like an hour. Felt fast, sure. Respawning felt slow though. Sometimes I’d get back and the packs weren’t even up yet! Stood there like an idiot waiting. Zero drops after an hour. Zip. Nada. Felt like a waste of freaking time.

Okay, Second Try: The Spot Camp
Fine. Switched gears. Saw people swear by this one spot near the old ruins. Supposedly spawns groups close together fast. Parked my butt there. Pop one group, turn around, next one already spawning sometimes. Nice rhythm actually. Less running, more smashing. Did this another hour, maybe a bit more. Felt more efficient than running the lake. Less dead waiting time. But guess what? Still no mount! Not one! Starting to question this spot’s “legendary” status.
Third Try: Burning the Boss
Alright, getting pissed now. Heard rumors that juicing up before killing that mini-boss near the swamp had better odds. Spent time gathering the buff scrolls – took like 20 minutes just prepping! Felt like a chore already. Buffed up, went ham on the boss. Killed it quick. Heart pounding… loot… nope! Just some boring greens. Tried it five times back-to-back with full buffs each time. Five times! Kill the boss, cross fingers, get junk. Zero mounts. Five preps, five kills, five disappointments. Strongly believe this method is massively overhyped. Waste of effort gathering those buffs.
What Actually Seemed… Less Awful?
- The Spot Camp Won for Me: Honestly? Out of the three pains in the rear, camping that spot near the ruins sucked marginally less. It didn’t feel fast exactly, but the downtime was way lower. No huge empty runs back. Kills felt constant. Saw more mobs die per hour, period.
- Buffing the Boss = Big Nope: Forget about it. The prep time killed it. You spend more time getting ready than actually doing. Drop rate felt the same as regular Shovelers. Total letdown.
- The Runaround Sucks Your Soul: Just… running. So much running. Felt like a mail courier, not a mount farmer. Got boring after ten minutes.
Ended up camping that ruin spot for another grueling two hours. Zero mounts dropped the whole damn session. Three freaking hours total! Makes you wonder if the damn things even exist, you know?
That mini-boss method gets so much hype online. After wasting half my night on it? I call straight up bull. Maybe someone got lucky once and shouted about it. My experience? Utter nightmare fuel. Waste of potions, waste of scrolls, waste of life. Won’t touch that garbage “method” again.
Whole thing left a sour taste. After that? Logged out. Grabbed a beer. Might just wait for the stupid thing to appear on the vendor next month. Farming it feels like throwing time in the trash. Some days RNGesus just hates you, I guess.
