Okay, so today I wanted to make some blank guitar tab sheets. I play guitar, and sometimes I just want to jot down ideas quickly, you know? So I needed a way to make a bunch of these without having to draw them out every single time by hand. The project title I came up with, “blank 6-string guitar tab sheets 4 stfing shovel,” basically describes what I was going for: blank tabs, six strings, four staffs, easy peasy.

Figuring it Out

First, I thought about just drawing the lines myself on paper. But, man, that gets old fast. It’s tedious, and they never look quite right. My lines always end up crooked or unevenly spaced.

Then I remembered some online tools for making custom graph paper back in the day. I figured there had to be something similar for guitar tabs, right? But, Surprisingly all the online tools and apps for making tabs required me to input the notes and wouldn’t make a blank sheet!

So, I decided to take a more manual approach, but still digitally.I grabbed a new note and began to free draw.

The Process

  • I started by drawing six horizontal lines. These are my strings.
  • I spaced them out as evenly as I could, trying to imagine where my fingers would go on a real fretboard.
  • Next, I drew a vertical line at the beginning and end of each staff, and one in the middle, you know, to mark off the measures. I eyeballed it, mostly.
  • I repeated that whole process four times. I wanted four staffs per page.
  • I did it all on a new note, so it’s ready whenever I need to do it, so it’s simple to use.

The Result

It’s not perfect, The lines aren’t perfectly straight, and the spacing is a little off in places. But honestly, it’s good enough! It beats drawing the whole thing from scratch every time I have a riff idea. I can quickly print a few of these out, and I’m good to go. It’s way more convenient, and that’s what I was aiming for. So, mission accomplished, I guess!
